First tasted in March 2001 when it was very impressive. A feminine, cherry, vanilla and kirsch-scented nose: absolutely beautiful. Exquisite on the palate, utterly seductive akin to the Ducru Beaucaillou 1995 with its silky smooth tannins. Rich and generous. Drink now and over next 5 yrs. The is perhaps the most beautiful of all the 1970’s tasted (so far!) Utterly irresistible. Again at the Ducru vertical in November 2003: garnet core with tawny rim. A well-knit, cohesive nose with liquorice and blueberry. The palate is less rich and harmonious than a couple of years ago but still well balanced, very sweet with good concentration. In style it’s not a million miles away from the 1995. Losing a bit of cohesion, especially with the volatile finish. Still a lovely wine and a superb 1970.
